Testing before events

Important! From 1 July 2021, events that require a Covid Certificate can only be attended by people who have a Swiss Covid Certificate with a QR code. Vaccination certificates or test results are not recognised and do not entitle holders to admission to events.

Information for organisers

With retroactive effect from 1 July 2021, testing equipment for the Sars-CoV-2 rapid test carried out by specialist staff will be paid for (if the event organiser is offering testing on site) for events that can only be attended with a valid Covid Certificate.

Rapid antigen tests must be carried out by qualified specialists (doctors, pharmacists, laboratories or by a person with the required specialist knowledge delegated by one of these groups of professionals).

Organisers have the option of working together with pharmacies or a laboratory for testing on site. Please contact these providers directly Test centres (list). If you are providing a test centre, please note that the Federal Government and the canton only cover costs for test equipment. The organiser must cover the costs for the necessary testing infrastructure and operation.

If you are planning to offer testing on site, please let us know at Covid.Masstentest.Betrieb@bs.ch. We will then send you information about settling the costs of testing.

The staff of any external service providers (e.g. caterers) must also be able to produce a Covid Certificate at events that require Covid Certificates.

Covid Certificate for attendees from abroad

The EU officially recognized the Swiss Covid Certificate on 9 July 2021. At the same time, Switzerland ensured recognition of certificates issued in EU and EFTA member states. As the digital interfaces are linked, the Swiss Covid Check App is able to verify EU certificates.
People from abroad without a Swiss or EU Covid Certificate who wish to attend an event in Switzerland must take account of the following:
People who were vaccinated in a non-EU and non-EFTA state and who have an unrecognized foreign vaccination certificate must take their vaccination certificate to the cantonal counter at the coronavirus vaccination centre and have a Swiss certificate issued.
The counter is open from Monday to Friday from 09.00 – 18.00 and on Saturday from 10.00 – 16.00. You do not need to register in advance to go to the counter. The counter is closed on Sundays. Vaccination certificates cannot be issued to people who have been vaccinated with a vaccine that has not be approved in Switzerland (e.g. AstraZeneca, Sinovac etc.). Despite having been vaccinated, these people must take a test in order to get a certificate.

People from abroad who have recovered from Covid-19 <180 days ago can obtain a certificate from the canton via email address epi@bs.ch or at the counter in the vaccination centre. Please note that certificates can only be issued upon presentation of a positive PCR test. Recovery certificates are not available to people who have tested positive with a rapid antigen test. This was decided by the Federal Government due to EU-compatibility.

People from abroad who have been tested: Certificates based on negative test results that were not issued in the EU or in one of the EFTA states may not be recognized in Switzerland. People without an EU, EFTA or Swiss Covid Certificate who wish to attend an event in Switzerland must therefore be tested in a Swiss test centre.
