Coronavirus: Tuesday bulletin on the case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Tuesday, 29 December 2020, 11:15, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 7,990 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 603 active cases in isolation and 592 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is at 239 (CH: 203) and the 14-day notification rate at 574 (CH: 543).
Of the 603 active cases, 89 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 52 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 141 people in hospital, 22 require intensive care.
The total of 7,990 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 7243 recoveries, 144 deaths and 603 active cases. There have been 514 new cases of infection, and 14 men and women aged between 75 and 96 have died as a result of Covid-19 since the last bulletin on Tuesday, 22 December 2020. Eight people died in hospital and six in a nursing home.
Information about sources of infection
The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 2,427 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 1 to 28 December 2020). 49 percent (or 1182 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (40 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (6 per cent), at work (18 per cent) or in a nursing home (11 per cent). Ten percent said that they had several possible sources of infection. 88 residents from eleven different nursing homes have currently tested positive.
