Two new cases in the Canton of Basel-Stadt
As of 10.00 on Friday, 29 May 2020, there are 978 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. There have therefore been two new confirmed cases since yesterday. Both cases occurred in a primary school class and in a nursery class at the Isaak Iselin school site. The girl and the boy are brother and sister. The other family members were placed under quarantine. This will now also apply to the two affected classes. Cantonal physician Thomas Steffen: “We don’t know where the infection came from and, in the interests of health and safety at the school and the nursery, we do not want to relax too early. “For that reason, we have decided to pronounce quarantine for the affected classes and individual teachers, as well as for the other family members of the siblings.” Around 70 people (children, at least one parent, two nursery teachers, other teachers and specialists, subject to clarification) will go into quarantine from today up to and including Friday, 5 June 2020. The medical services of the Department of Health Basel-Stadt will be contacting the parents of children from both classes and other necessary people, from this afternoon.
In addition to testing residents of the canton, suspected cases from other Swiss cantons and other countries close to the border are also being tested in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 1485 people (+ 3) have tested positive so far (including the 978 Basel cases).
