Department of Health

In order to keep tackling the coronavirus pandemic, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt has ordered a further measure: All restaurants must remain closed between 23.00 and 06.00. This measure comes into force at midday tomorrow, Saturday.

330 new infections occurred within a week in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The 14-day notification rate increased from 110 on Friday, 16 October 2020 to 241 today, Friday, therefore doubling. The number of hospitalisations is also clearly increasing. The national Covid-19 Science Task Force urgently recommends that the cantons take further measures now to reduce the number of possible contacts. The Canton of Basel-Stadt is taking up this recommendation.

In order to further tackle the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the cantonal physician is therefore urgently ordering the following measure in accordance with Article 40 of the Epidemic Diseases Act:

All publicly accessible restaurant businesses (restaurants, bars, clubs etc.) that serve paying guests must remain closed between 23.00 and 06.00.

This measure will come into force at 12.00 tomorrow Saturday, 24 October 2020 and will remain in force until further notice. It applies to all restaurants within the meaning of § 11 (2) of the Hospitality Law (Gastgewerbegesetz; GGG).

The decision of the cantonal physician is considered to have been published with the publication of this press release.

The approach has been agreed with the Canton of Basel-Landschaft.

The Canton of Basel-Stadt is preparing further measures to tackle the pandemic and, in particular, supports the Swiss-wide measures on the part of the Federal Government.
