Coronavirus daily bulletin: 931 confirmed cases in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of 09:00 on Thursday, 23 April 2020, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt announced a total of 931 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. In addition, the Department of Health developed recommendations for the implementation of safety policies.

As of 09:00 on Thursday, 23 April 2020, there are a total of 931 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The decrease in the positive cases compared to yesterday occured due to a data cleansing. Since yesterday there were three new cases. Five double reports, which occurred in March and in the first days of April, have been identified and were removed. The past three days with no new infections were correct.

Of the 931 positive cases, 793 people, and therefore more than 80 percent of it, have recovered. The number of deaths recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt remains unchanged at 45.

In addition to testing residents of the canton, suspected cases from other Swiss cantons and other countries close to the border are also being tested in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 1443 people have tested positive so far (including the 931 Basel cases).

29 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are currently being treated in a Basel-Stadt hospital because of a Covid-19 infection. A total of 42 persons are in hospital. Seven people in total require intensive care. The other patients are in the normal ward.

Recommendations for the implementation of safety concepts

With regard to the gradual easing of the measures of the Federal Council for the protection against coronavirus, which will start as of next Monday, 27 April 2020, the Department of Health of the Canton of Basel-Stadt has developed cross-industry recommendations for the implementation of safety policies (see attachment). The points specified in there are general guidelines. The easing of the measures of the Federal Council will be accompanied and monitored interdepartmentally by the cantonal authorities. Every business must be able to demonstrate its protection measures based on a concept. The Department of Health points out that the most important protection is to continue to adhere consequently to the measures for behaviour and hygiene.
