Because of the current situation in connection with coronavirus, dentists in the Canton of Basel-Stadt are also subject to special guidelines. Dentists can now only treat emergency patients.

Steps to be taken in connection with coronavirus are also affecting dentists in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Since personal contact is unavoidable in everyday practice, it is being reduced to an absolute minimum. The principal is that non-emergency treatments and elective treatments must be suspended until the Federal Council measures are lifted. This announcement has been made by the Swiss Dental Association (SSO) Basel-Stadt and the University Centre for Dental Medicine (Universitäre Zentrum für Zahnmedizin (UZB)) Basel.

The UZB guarantees dental care. If it is temporarily not possible for patients to receive treatment in private practices, they can be referred to the UZB. If there is a strong suspicion that patients requiring treatment have been infected with coronavirus, they can also be referred to the UZB. The UZB has the appropriate infrastructure and protective equipment to allow it to treat infected patients in an emergency.

The UZB is open from 08:00 until 15.30 until further notice. Patients can contact the emergency service on 061 267 25 25 between 15:30 and 18:00. After 18:00 the overnight emergency service can be contacted on the number for medical emergencies: 061 261 15 15. If it has been confirmed that a patient has been infected with Covid-19, they can only be treated if this has been arranged by telephone first on 061 267 26 10.
