Coronavirus daily bulletin: 933 confirmed cases in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of 10:40 on Tuesday, 21 April 2020, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt announced a total of 933 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt, as well as two further deaths.
As of 10:40 on Tuesday, 21 April 2020, there are a total of 933 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. That is the same number as on the previous day. Cantonal physician Thomas Steffen made the following comment: “It is a good sign that we have not had to record any further new infections in the Canton of Basel-Stadt from yesterday into today. The steps taken are therefore measurably having an effect. However, we must be aware that the virus is going to force us down a longer road, and we have more important stages ahead of us before the full all-clear can be given.” Of the 933 positive cases, 781 people, therefore more than 80 percent of it, have recovered.
Another two persons have died because of a Covid-19 infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The deceased woman and the deceased man were in the at-risk group (aged over 65 and/or pre-existing condition). They were 80 and 86 years old. This now brings the total number of deaths in the Canton of Basel-Stadt to 44.
In addition to testing residents of the canton, suspected cases from other Swiss cantons and other countries close to the border are also being tested in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 1442 people have tested positive so far (including the 933 Basel cases).
35 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are currently being treated in a Basel-Stadt hospital because of a Covid-19 infection. A total of 54 persons are in hospital. Nine people in total require intensive care. The other patients are in the normal ward.
