Diverse sources of infection
The current sources of infection are diverse, as follows: 1831 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 13 October 2020 until 09 November 2020). 28 percent (or 511 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most people became infected within their family (39 percent) or when meeting family or friends (8 percent), during leisure time (18 percent), at work (17 percent), as well as on aeroplanes or when travelling (4 percent). The figures for infections acquired during travel are falling continuously. These infections now only make up a small part of new infections.
As case numbers increase, there have also been Covid-19 infections in nursing home residents. 26 residents in nine different nursing homes have currently tested positive.
Formal adjustment based on federal law
On 23 October 2020 the cantonal physician ordered restaurants, bars and clubs to close between 23.00 and 06.00, from Saturday 24 October 2020. Since this situation is now regulated as standard across Switzerland by federal law, there is no longer any need to regulate this area with a general decision in the Canton of Basel-Stadt in order to protect public health. The cantonal physician is therefore revoking the order of 23 October 2020. The revocation of 9 November 2020 is considered to have been published with this press release.
Case numbers continue to be updated every day on the website www.coronavirus.bs.ch.
