Coronavirus: Extension of measures in the Canton of Basel-Stadt
Today, the Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt extended the measures in force in the Canton of Basel-Stadt to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic by one week, i.e. up to and including Sunday, 20 December 2020. It has been possible to slow the rise in new infections during the past two weeks. However, the effects of this have not been quick and clear enough to allow for relaxations. The time can now be used for further coordination with the Federal Government and the cantons.
The Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt today advised on dealing with the further measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic that it communicated on 20 November 2020 and that are in force until this coming Sunday, 13 December 2020 (see press release of 20 November 2020).
Since the stricter measures, in accordance with the Covid-19 ordinance additional measures, came into force it has been possible to slow the increase in new infections and to achieve a certain degree of stabilisation in the hospitals. The measures have had an effect, but it has not been quick and clear enough.
The Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt therefore wants to wait until next week to make a decision on whether relaxations will be possible for the holidays. The Government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt wants to use the time for further discussion and agreement with the Federal Government and the cantons, especially the neighbouring cantons, during these rapidly changing days.
The measures currently in force in the Canton of Basel-Stadt will therefore remain in force for the time being, up to and including Sunday, 20 December 2020.
