Coronavirus: Five new positive cases in Basel-Stadt

As of 10.00 am on Thursday, 5 March 2020, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt reported five new positive cases of the coronavirus among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt.
Numbers of cases are growing in Europe and Switzerland, and a steady increase is expected to continue. This is also the case in Basel-Stadt: As of 10.00 am on Thursday, 5 March 2020, there are five new positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. For the first time, one of these cases involves someone who is more seriously ill.
In four cases it was possible to directly or indirectly trace back the chain of infection. Two of these cases involve people who had attended a large-scale event held over several days by the Free Church in Mulhouse.
Basel-Stadt currently has eight positive cases in total.
The Department of Health Basel-Stadt has invited media representatives to a press conference at 2.00 pm tomorrow Friday, 6 March 2020, at Malzgasse 30 in Basel. Speakers will be health director [Gesundheitsdirektor] Lukas Engelberger, Cantonal Doctor Thomas Steffen and Werner Kübler, CEO of University Hospital Basel. A separate invitation will be sent.
