What does coronavirus (Covid-19) mean for dogs and cats?

Can pets catch the coronavirus (Covid-19), spread it and pass it on to people?

As far as we are currently aware, there is no evidence that pets or farm animals are involved in the spread of COVID-19. Therefore no special precautionary measures apply to handling pets, other than the general rules of hygiene that normally apply. These include thoroughly washing your hands and face with soap after contact with animals. No other measures are currently advised.
