Coronavirus: Friday bulletin on case numbers in Basel-Stadt

As of Friday, 30 April 2021, 10.10, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 11,978 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 437 active cases in isolation and 697 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 163 (CH: 124), the 14-day notification rate is 358 (CH: 291). In total 55,869 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 19,873 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. Priority vaccination days will be held on the next two weekends for healthcare workers who have contact with patients. 5,000 vaccinations will be administered on these days.

Occurrence of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt: Of the 437 active cases, 24 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 25 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 49 people in hospital, 13 require intensive care.

The total of 11,978 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 11,342 recoveries, 199 deaths and 437 active cases. There have been 175 new cases of infection and a 67-year-old man has died in hospital as a result of Covid-19 since the last bulletin of Tuesday, 27 April 2021.

Current status of vaccinations

As of yesterday, Thursday, 29 April 2021, a total of 55,869 vaccinations had been administered in the vaccination centre and by the mobile units in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 19,873 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. A total of 7,290 doses for first and second vaccinations have also been delivered to Basel-Stadt hospitals.

Priority vaccination days for healthcare workers who have contact with patients (vaccination group 2b) will now be held tomorrow, Saturday, 1 May and on the weekend of 8 and 9 May 2021. On these days, 5,000 vaccinations will be administered to general practitioners, staff at medical practices, pharmacists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals with patient contact. Doctors requested that the vaccination appointments be available during quiet times and/or on weekends so as not to disrupt the running of their own practices and their programme of work.

44,590 people have pre-registered for vaccination. In addition, a further 25,181 people have a pre-arranged vaccination appointment at the vaccination centre. It was possible to allocate around 11,000 new vaccination appointments during the past week (24 to 30/04) and around 11,500 vaccinations were administered in Basel-Stadt during the same period.

The current situation in Basel schools

Primary schools and nurseries (total 12,814 pupils and 1,906 staff)

  • 270 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 2.1 percent.
  • 33 teachers in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 1.7 percent.

Secondary schools (total of 4,343 pupils and 650 teachers)

  • 39 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.9 percent.
  • 1 teacher in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.2 percent.

Higher secondary schools and vocational colleges (total of 7,400 pupils and 1,170 teachers)

  • 89 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 1.2 percent.
  • 4 teachers in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.3 percent.
