Coronavirus: Friday bulletin on case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Friday, 29 January 2021, 10:40, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 9294 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 272 active cases in isolation and 689 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 101 (CH: 110), the 14-day notification rate is 205 (CH: 273). Over 9200 people in Basel-Stadt have so far received the first dose of the vaccination against coronavirus and over 3700 further individuals have already received two doses of the vaccine. In total almost 13000 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt.

Of the 272 active cases, 33 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 15 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 48 people in hospital, 9 require intensive care.

The total of 9294 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 8843 recoveries, 179 deaths and 272 active cases. There have been 106 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Tuesday, 26 January 2021. One man and one woman aged 88 and 93 have died in a nursing home as a result of Covid-19.

Information about sources of infection

The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 1121 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 1 to 28 January 2021). 56 percent (or 632 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (49 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (9 per cent), at work (10 per cent) or in a nursing home (10 per cent). Ten percent said that they had several possible sources of infection.
