Coronavirus bulletin: Current case numbers in Basel-Stadt – general decision for Steinenvorstadt extended

As of Friday, 28 May 2021, 10.30, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 12,772 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 167 active cases in isolation and 272 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 44 (CH: 51), the 14-day notification rate is 113 (CH: 143). In total, 113,970 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 40,266 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. The Department of Health announces that the general decision of the Cantonal Physician regarding general compulsory mask wearing and the ban on consuming food and beverages on common ground in Steinenvorstadt is being extended to 30 June 2021.

Occurrence of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt: Of the 167 active cases, seven residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, four people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of eleven people in hospital, one requires intensive care.

The total of 12,772 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 12,402 recoveries, 203 deaths and 167 active cases. There have been 39 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Tuesday, 25 May 2021. No further people have died of the consequences of Covid-19.

Current status of vaccinations

As of yesterday Thursday, 27 May 2021, a total of 113,970 vaccinations have so far been administered in the vaccination centre, in the hospitals and by the mobile units in the Canton of Basel-Stadt (total for the previous week: 98,179). 40,266 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination (total for the previous week: 31,086).

As of yesterday evening, 34,434 people had pre-registered for vaccination. In addition, a further 53,809 people have a pre-arranged appointment at the vaccination centre.

During the past week (22 to 28/05), 15,496 vaccination appointments were allocated in the vaccination centre (previous week: 13,375).

Vaccination: Information event in Albanian

Tomorrow, Saturday, 29 May 2021, from 14.30 until 15.30, a virtual event will be taking place in Albanian, entitled “Vaccine Protection against Covid-19”. The event is organised by Verein Parandalo in cooperation with the Department of Health Basel-Stadt. The current situation in Basel schools

Primary schools and nurseries (total of 12,814 pupils and 1,906 teachers)

  • 42 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.3 percent.
  • 15 teachers in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.8 percent.

Secondary schools (total of 4,343 pupils and 650 teachers)

  • 87 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 2 percent.
  • 3 teachers in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.5 percent.

Higher secondary schools and vocational colleges (total of 7,400 pupils and 1,170 teachers)

  • 16 pupils in quarantine or self-isolation, corresponding to 0.2 percent.
  • No teachers in quarantine or self-isolation.

General decision for Steinenvorstadt extended

Against the background of the relaxations for restaurants as of 19 April 2021, passed by the Federal Council, the Medical Services (Medizinische Dienste) of the Department of Health ordered general compulsory mask wearing and a ban on consuming food and beverages on common ground in Steinenvorstadt by means of the general decision of 19 April 2021. This measure came into force at 00:00 on 19 April 2021 and will remain in force until 31 May 2021 at the latest.

In view of the further relaxation steps at the end of May, promised by the Federal Council on 12 May 2021, the period of the aforementioned general decision is being extended until 30 June 2021, in order to further stabilise the epidemiological situation.
