Coronavirus: Friday bulletin on case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Friday, 22 January 2021, 10:50, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 9096 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 311 active cases in isolation and 511 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 104 (CH: 155), the 14-day notification rate is 250 (CH: 351). Over 8500 people in Basel-Stadt have so far received the first dose of the vaccination against coronavirus and over 2100 further individuals have already received two doses of the vaccine. In total over 10600 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt.
Of the 311 active cases, 44 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 17 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 61 people in hospital, 12 require intensive care. The level of tension in the cantonal hospitals is medium-high.
The total of 9096 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 8614 recoveries, 171 deaths and 311 active cases. There have been 112 new cases of infection, and one man aged 81 has died in hospital as a result of Covid-19 since the last bulletin on Tuesday, 19 January 2021.
Information about sources of infection
The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 1277 new infections were registered in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 25 December 2020 until 21 January 2021). 54 percent (or 687 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (51 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (10 per cent), at work (10 per cent) or in a nursing home (9 per cent). Nine percent said that they had several possible sources of infection.
