Coronavirus: Tuesday bulletin on the case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Tuesday, 19 January 2021, 10:50, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 8974 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 297 active cases in isolation and 594 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 103 (CH: 132), the 14-day notification rate is 305 (CH: 368).
Of the 297 active cases, 51 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 18 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 69 people in hospital, 12 require intensive care.
The total of 8974 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 8507 recoveries, 170 deaths and 297 active cases. There have been 78 new cases of infection, and two men aged between 79 and 90 years have died as a result of Covid-19 since the last bulletin on Friday, 15 January 2021. The two men died in hospital.
Information about sources of infection
The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 1406 new infections were registered in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 22 December 2020 until 18 January 2021). 54 percent (or 760 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (50 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (9 per cent), at work (11 per cent) or in a nursing home (10 per cent). Eight percent said that they had several possible sources of infection. 37 residents from six different nursing homes have currently tested positive.
