Coronavirus: Tuesday bulletin on the case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Tuesday, 16 March 2021, 11.10, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 10,177 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 206 active cases in isolation and 772 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 95 (CH: 80), the 14-day notification rate is 159 (CH: 171). In total 27,007 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 11,317 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination.
Of the 206 active cases, 23 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, six people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 29 people in hospital, six require intensive care.
The total of 10,177 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 9,778 recoveries, 193 deaths and 206 active cases. There have been 99 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Friday, 12 March 2021. No further people have died of the consequences of Covid-19.
Information about sources of infection
The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 429 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 16 February to 15 March 2021). 47 per cent (or 200 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (50 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (7 per cent) or at work (10 per cent). 22 per cent said that they had several possible sources of infection. Five residents of a Basel-Stadt nursing home have currently tested positive.
The status of vaccinations
As of yesterday, Monday 15 March 2021, 27,007 vaccinations had been given in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. As of 13.00 on Tuesday, 9 March 2021, 39,550 people have pre-registered for vaccination.
