Coronavirus daily bulletin: 144 confirmed cases in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of 12.00 on Monday, 16 March 2020 the Department of Health Basel-Stadt announced a total of 144 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Three more people have died as a result of Covid-19 infection (coronavirus).

This brings the total number of deaths in the Canton of Basel-Stadt to four, as of 12.00 today. The most recent deaths involved two women and one man. They were all over 70 years old and suffered from pre-existing conditions. All three were hospitalised at the University Hospital of Basel. State Councillor, Lukas Engelberger, offered his condolences to the patients’ families.

In addition to testing residents of the canton, suspected cases from other Swiss cantons and other countries close to the border are also being tested in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Around 270 people have tested positive so far (including the 144 Basel cases).

The Department of Health has put together some tips for precautions and conduct for older people living at home and in nursing homes.
