Coronavirus: Friday bulletin on case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Friday, 15 January 2021, 11:00, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 8896 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 393 active cases in isolation and 606 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 145 (CH: 160), the 14-day notification rate is 363 (CH: 425). Over 4800 people in Basel-Stadt have so far received the first dose of the vaccination against coronavirus.
Of the 393 active cases, 47 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 17 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 64 people in hospital, 10 require intensive care.
The total of 8896 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 8335 recoveries, 168 deaths and 393 active cases. There have been 111 new cases of infection, and one woman aged 92 has died as a result of Covid-19 since the last bulletin on Tuesday, 12 January 2021. She died in hospital.
Information about sources of infection
The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 1628 new infections were registered in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 18 December 2020 until 14 January 2021). 54 percent (or 885 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (48 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (9 per cent), at work (11 per cent) or in a nursing home (12 per cent). Eight percent said that they had several possible sources of infection.
