Coronavirus: Tuesday bulletin on the case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Tuesday, 13 April 2021, 10.30, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 11,101 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 289 active cases in isolation and 568 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 126 (CH: 144), the 14-day notification rate is 251 (CH: 273). In total 37,758 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 15,410 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. From today, interested establishments can also register for mass testing on the canton’s coronavirus website.

Occurrence of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt: Of the 289 active cases, 27 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, 18 people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 45 people in hospital, six require intensive care.

The total of 11,101 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 10,615 recoveries, 197 deaths and 289 active cases. There have been 140 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Friday, 09 April 2021. A 63-year-old woman has died in hospital as a result of Covid-19.

Information about sources of infection

The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 1014 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 16 March to 12 April 2021). 40 per cent (or 404 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (61 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (7 per cent) or at work (11 per cent). Eight percent said that they had several possible sources of infection. One resident of a Basel-Stadt nursing home has currently tested positive.

Status of vaccinations

As of yesterday, Monday 12 April 2021, a total of 37,758 vaccinations have so far been given in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 15,410 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. 53,670 people have pre-registered for vaccination. In addition, a further 3,822 people have a pre-arranged vaccination appointment at the vaccination centre.

Mass testing in establishments: Registration now possible

From today, establishments that are interested in mass testing can register online at https://www.coronavirus.bs.ch/en/suspected-infection/massentests-in-betrieben.html. The establishments will then be categorised according to assessment of the likelihood of transmission and the risk of outbreaks. The first establishments will then be contacted in the week commencing 19 April 2021 and given details about how to proceed.

The roll-out will initially focus on establishments with an increased likelihood of transmission or higher risk of outbreaks (unavoidable close contact with customers) and on establishments with customer contact in the service sector. Establishments with a lower likelihood of transmission and risk of outbreaks will be included in further steps.
