Coronavirus: Tuesday bulletin on the case numbers in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

As of Tuesday, 9 March 2021, 10:20, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 9,990 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 157 active cases in isolation and 671 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 64 (CH: 69), the 14-day notification rate is 131 (CH: 154). In total 25,577 vaccination doses have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 10,796 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination.

Of the 157 active cases, 13 residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, eight people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 22 people in hospital, five require intensive care.

The total of 9,990 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 9,640 recoveries, 193 deaths and 157 active cases. There have been 58 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Friday, 5 March 2021. One woman aged 86 has died in hospital as a result of Covid-19. Information about sources of infection

The current sources of infection have been recorded as follows: 491 new infections were recorded in the Canton of Basel-Stadt during the past four weeks (period from 9 February to 8 March 2021). 45 per cent (or 221 cases) of the new infections could be attributed to known or suspected sources of infection. Most of them caught the infection from their own family (48 per cent) or when meeting with family or friends (5 per cent), at work (10 per cent) or at schools providing compulsory education (5 per cent). 22 per cent said that they had several possible sources of infection. Four residents of a Basel-Stadt nursing home have currently tested positive.

The status of vaccinations

As of yesterday, Monday 8 March 2021, 25,577 vaccinations had been given in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Yesterday, Monday, the vaccination centre’s mobile teams administered first vaccinations in two more nursing homes. The last two nursing homes in Basel-Stadt will be supplied with first vaccinations tomorrow, Wednesday 10 March 2021. The first vaccination will therefore have been administered to all of the residents of Basel-Stadt’s 42 nursing homes who wanted it. A total of 10‘796 people in the Canton of Basel-Stadt have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. As of 13.00 on Tuesday, 9 March 2021, 32,128 people have pre-registered for vaccination. This includes around 6,000 people with chronic illnesses and just under 700 with immune system disorders.
