Waste water samples in the Canton of Basel-Stadt

The Canton of Basel-Stadt is currently conducting a pilot study in which waste water is sampled and tested for SARS-CoV-2. 20 points in the sewerage system of the urban area, as well as the inflow to the sewage treatment plant (ProRheno) were sampled during the second run at the end of May. Around 50 percent of these samples were positive. The samples from the sewage treatment plant were also positive. Because these samples were not included in the first run and in order to confirm the results so far – especially in the investigation of multi-resistant germs, which is being conducted in parallel – the Cantonal Laboratory of Basel-Stadt has decided to conduct a third sampling run. The Department of Health will provide information about the results and the conclusions drawn from them as soon as this is available.

Hospitalisation figures that were recorded on Saturday and Sunday will now be recorded in the system on Mondays and then published.

All other figures will continue to be updated every day on the website www.coronavirus.bs.ch. The latest vaccination figures can be found on the Basel-Stadt data portal.
