Coronavirus bulletin: Current case numbers in Basel-Stadt – more vaccination appointments for people who registered in March

As of Tuesday, 1 June 2021, 10.20, the Department of Health Basel-Stadt had recorded a total of 12,810 positive cases among people living in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic, 146 active cases in isolation and 290 people in quarantine. The 7-day notification rate per 100,000 residents is 35 (CH: 51), the 14-day notification rate is 93 (CH: 124). Over 123,000 vaccinations have so far been administered in Basel-Stadt. 44,114 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination. Since the weekend, 9,100 new first appointments have been allocated to people who registered between 5 and 30 March.

Occurrence of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt: Of the 146 active cases, eleven residents of the Canton of Basel-Stadt are in hospital. In addition, a further two people from outside the canton or abroad are being treated in hospital in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Of the total of 13 people in hospital, two require intensive care.

The total of 12,810 cases of infection in the Canton of Basel-Stadt since the start of the pandemic consists of 12,460 recoveries, 204 deaths and 146 active cases. There have been 38 new cases of infection since the last bulletin on Wednesday, 28 April 2021. A 67-year-old man has died in hospital as a result of Covid-19. One resident of a care and nursing home in Basel-Stadt is currently ill with Covid-19.

Status of vaccinations

Around 7,200 vaccinations have been administered since the last bulletin of Friday, 28 May 2021. Since the weekend, 9,100 new first appointments have been allocated to people who registered between 5 and 30 March*. Up to 3,000 vaccinations per day will be administered over the coming days. There are currently only around 26,200 people on the waiting list.

As of yesterday, Monday 31 May 2021, a total of 123,566 vaccinations had been administered in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. 44,114 people have been fully vaccinated with the first and second vaccination.

Status of mass testing

Mass testing has been taking place in Basel-Stadt schools since the middle of May 2021. The first two weeks of testing were successful, with a total of five positive cases discovered in schools.

41 class pools with 574 people were tested from 17 to 21 May 2021. One of these pools was positive (corresponding to a pool positivity rate of 2.44 percent). 408 class pools with 5,477 people were tested from 24 to 28 May 2021. Four of these pools were positive (corresponding to a pool positivity rate of 0.98 percent). Depooling was successful and it was possible to find the infected individuals.

More primary schools (classes 2 to 6) are starting testing this week, followed by class 1 and nurseries.

Testing in establishments that registered for mass testing by 25 May 2021 will begin within the next two weeks at the latest.

Please note:
*Exceptions for unallocated vaccination appointments with earlier registration dates are possible, e.g. through postponed vaccination appointments; people aged between 16 and 18 years will be given the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine. Most of them will receive their appointment soon.
